Statement 159 enables business entities to choose to measure a number of financial instruments and other items at fair value. The objective of statement 159 is to enhance financial reporting by providing businesses with the ability to ease volatility in reported earnings as a result of measuring associated assets and liabilities differently without having to utilize complex accounting methods.
