John Kiff

Since 2005, John Kiff has been a Senior Financial Sector Expert at the IMF. Prior to that, John worked at the Bank of Canada for 25 years, where he spent most of his time managing the funding and investment of the government’s foreign exchange reserves. During his last five years at the Bank, John was heavily involved in several BIS working groups that focused on credit risk transfer markets, and he has published a number of articles and papers around these projects.
This all led John to the IMF, where he is part of the team that produces the semi-annual Global Financial Stability Report, and he has continued to publish articles and papers on risk transfer markets. More recently John has been focusing on Canadian and U.S. mortgage market microstructure, OTC derivative market infrastructure, and global private-label securitization markets. He’s an occasional blogger and fairly frequent twitterer under the “Kiffmeister” monicker.
Jordan E. Yarett

A partner in the Corporate Department and co-head of the Finance Group, Jordan E. Yarett has over 25 years of experience as a financing lawyer focusing on structured finance and securitization transactions. He has handled both innovative structured finance deals involving unusual asset classes as well as securitizations and bond financings involving a wide range of more traditional assets.
In 2007 The American Lawyer selected Mr. Yarett as a "Dealmaker of the Year" for his representation of Lehman Brothers Inc., the lead underwriter and sole structuring agent for Dunkin’ Brands Inc. in its complex $1.7-billion whole-business securitization. He was also selected as a Lawdragon 500 Leading Lawyer in America for conceiving and executing the Dunkin’ Brands transaction. Mr. Yarett has been repeatedly recognized by Chambers USA and Legal 500 US as a leading capital markets lawyer for his work on structured finance and securitization transactions. He has also been quoted in numerous publications including The Economist, The Daily Deal, The American Lawyer, The Hollywood Reporter, Esq. and The Analyst (published in India).
With regular representation of issuers, investors, underwriters, credit enhancers and other financiers of securitized debt, Mr. Yarett’s representative investment banking and insurance clients over the last ten years have included Lehman Brothers, Goldman, Sachs & Co., MBIA Insurance Corp., UBS, Morgan Stanley and Bear, Stearns. In addition, he has represented many of the most innovative specialty finance companies in the asset-backed finance business. Mr. Yarett also acts as primary financing counsel for Major League Baseball and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
As part of his practice, Mr. Yarett has worked on many groundbreaking transactions including what are believed to be the first U.S. whole company securitization involving intellectual property, first cash flow secured franchise loan securitization, the first rated time share loan securitization, the first telecom receivables commercial paper conduit, the first structured settlement conduit program, and the first fully effective SEC registered offering of pass-through certificates in a pool of secondary market municipal bonds, as well as many early and innovative drug royalty and equipment lease securitizations. Dr. Faten Sabry

Dr. Sabry is a Senior Vice President in the Securities Practice. She directs projects in the areas of securities, complex damages disputes and mass torts. She leads the securities practice’s subprime taskforce and has extensive experience with different types of credit crisis litigation. Dr. Sabry conducted valuations of loan portfolios and structured products including CDOs and analyzed loss prediction models and put back claims for different types of loans. She has analyzed the waterfalls and credit enhancements of synthetic and cash CDOs and used CDS spreads and other market indicators to assess forseeability.
Dr. Sabry examined liability and damages for originators of loans, servicers and issuers of structured products, assessed risk management models and examined the prudence of investments including hedging strategies. Dr. Sabry is the lead author of an econometric study on the impact of securitization before and after the credit crisis for the American Securitization Forum.
Dr. Sabry received her Ph.D. from Stanford Business School, and she was awarded the J.M. Olin Graduate Fellowship, the Graduate School of Business Fellowship, and a Ford Foundation Fellowship. She received her B.A., magna cum laude, and her M.A. in Economics from the American University in Cairo. She is a member of the American Finance Association.
Dr. Sabry has testified as an expert at trial and is the author of various articles on the economics of subprime lending, the credit crisis, securitization, econometric analysis of mutual funds' advisory fees, claiming behavior, and determinants of anti-dumping protection. Her research has been published in the Journal of Structured Finance, Journal of Investment Compliance, Journal of Alternative Investments, Business Economics, International Trade Journal and others. Prior to joining NERA, she was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the International Food Policy Research Institute in Washington, DC.
Chuck Weilamann

Chuck Weilamann is currently a Senior Vice President with DBRS, Inc. providing credit ratings for U.S. and international structured finance transactions in the equipment, transportation and esoteric asset-backed sectors. Prior to his position at DBRS, Chuck was a Partner at WoodLake Advisors, LLC, an independent financial advisor focused on providing advisory services to clients in energy infrastructure, securitization, leasing and project finance. Prior to founding WoodLake Advisors, Chuck was a Vice President at Credit Suisse Securities (USA) LLC, where he was been responsible for the underwriting of products collateralized by esoteric assets valued at over $10 billion, including first time structured finance public utility transactions in Florida and Louisiana. Prior to joining Credit Suisse, Chuck spent over 4 years as an attorney with the law firm of Thacher Proffitt & Wood LLP representing corporate clients in securities issuance, and over 3 years as a tax consultant with Deloitte & Touche LLP. Chuck has a JD from Hofstra School of Law and a BBA in Accounting from Hofstra University.
